A Timeless Estate Romance: Designing Your Terrara House Wedding Flowers
Venue – Terrara House, Nowra
There is a rare, storied magic that resides at Terrara House. A historic homestead dating back to 1860, this Shoalhaven estate feels less like a venue and more like a secret shared between sandstone walls and sprawling, manicured gardens. Just a two-hour journey south of Sydney, it offers that elusive destination feeling – a place where time softens and celebrations unfold over days rather than hours.
Having designed for multiple couples here, I’ve come to adore the way the estate becomes an effortless canvas for Terrara House wedding flowers. Whether it’s an alfresco feast beneath the glow of the marquee or an intimate gathering inside the rustic charm of Chesters, the setting calls for florals that feel as storied and considered as the architecture itself.
For Grace and Denzel, the vision was one of refined elegance. I leaned into a classic garden aesthetic, layering crisp whites and soft ivories with a tapestry of nuanced greens. To bring a gentle romantic depth to the ceremony, I wove in delicate blush roses, creating a soft focal point as they exchanged vows against the estate’s historic backdrop.
The secret to impactful Terrara House wedding flowers lies in texture — in the interplay between structure and movement, refinement and wildness. Each bloom was chosen to feel as though it had been gathered from the homestead’s own gardens.
The foundation rested on the romantic fullness of garden roses and the velvety layers of dahlias. For height and quiet drama, stately delphinium rose through the arrangements, while scabiosa and lisianthus introduced a sense of movement — soft, almost wind-swept. Queen Anne’s lace brought an ethereal lightness, while a considered blend of wild foliage, rose foliage, and variegated pittosporum grounded the palette in the natural beauty of the Shoalhaven landscape.
For Grace, the beauty of the day was always in the details rather than the grand gesture. Her bridal bouquet was designed to feel like an extension of her — elegant, intentional, and never overwhelming. I created a classic round silhouette of creamy white spray roses, intertwined with fragrant white freesia tipped in soft green. The result was quietly luxurious — a study in texture, scent, and restraint. There is a poetic power in simplicity, and this remains one of my most treasured designs for its understated presence.
Her bridesmaids carried smaller, garden-style bouquets – looser, more expressive arrangements that echoed the surrounding landscape and allowed Grace’s bouquet to remain the focal point.
In keeping with a thoughtful and sustainable approach, the floral story evolved throughout the day. Ceremony and bar arrangements were carefully repurposed, transitioning seamlessly into the reception space, allowing the Terrara House wedding flowers to continue their narrative well into the evening celebration.
